January 9, 2009 - 9:00 PM - Arbor Room - Shannon Butcher - Once an integral part of the vocal powerhouse Swing Rosie, Shannon Butcher has released her solo jazz album Words We Both Could Say, which artfully and unexpectedly plays with songs that are instantly familiar in one their original genre but are rendered new and mysterious in a jazz format. Think Madonna, Tears for Fears and other pop favourites and you begin to see where this jazz diva is going.

January 15, 2009 - 9:00 PM - Arbour Room, 7 Hart House Circle - Pat Robitaille, opened for by Michou - Pat Robitaille, solo artist: For an artist at the start of a career, Pat Robitaille's hard-earned years on the road already shine through with a comfortable attitude on and off stage. This isn't a musician by trade, this is someone who makes music because they have to. Born and bred in Windsor, Ontario, Pat takes his cue from the rock and soul music of Michigan. Pat's brand of music doesn't quite showcase the sound of Motown Detroit, but it's got the soul and spirit to measure up. Opened for by Michou: The members of Michou have been playing together for less than a year but the material that’s coming out of this Windsor-based act would leave you to believe this is the work of a well-seasoned, road-tested band several records into a career. Imagine, if you can, a musical partnership between an acoustic Ben Folds, NRBQ, and Barenaked Ladies and you might get some sense of what Michou has to offer. The calibre of the songwriting, the beauty of the arrangements, and the level of musicianship within the band all suggest this is a band with legs.
